New stuff

Came down to the coast last Sunday (mostly to go directly to passport office), did that with driving directions from Gail. New CA passport should be ready in prolly two weeks, that was easy. Then to the Mac store to see about my dying laptop, as I thought far to old to have part needed, so a new laptop (had been saving my money) so was ready for that. Then Wednesday unwelcoming noises in the rear end of my 2006 Subie, into dealer, rear calipers, metal to metal, both needed new stuff all around, expensive. While it was on the hoist several other goodies discovered (did I say it was 13 years old). Repairs would have come to almost $4500, so instead of repairing I replaced. 2019 Subaru Forester later me and the bank have a new subie. Lots of  reading the manual later feel comfortable driving home today, dash has more buttons, knobs etc. than any vehicle I’ve ever driven.  Will miss my CD changer, but have 3 months Serius radio, this will be welcome if it works where I live with n...

Odd stuff pt 2

This is the pix that wouldn't load last blog update. Pieces of various fibres about 4-5-6 inches long, try to use the pinky reds about every fourth or fifth colour. Will be sock weight yarn once plied (I hope). It's taken most of the day at Williams Lk spin in and good bit ofspinning since I've been home.  Wool room is bright and perfect for watching for any visiting critters. Usually have music playing from in house stereo.

Monstersock, second sock will have colours reversed, the red from the toe will be at the top and so on. Should get started on it yet today. OK figured out how to get the sock pix in but then the next two won't completely load. Ain't technology great when it does what its supposed to do and a pain in the butt when it won't. After The Fibre I'm spinning, a mix of wool, mohair and silk. Did something similar some time ago, was hoping for what I call butt ugly yarn, instead it turned out to be OK. Ended up making socks for a neighbour for extreme winter conditions.

This and That

My laptop has bit the bullet and died, not completely unexpected, think it's at least 7-8 years old. So this just leaves me with my iPad and no iPhoto. Just took pix this morning using a real camera and now no way to get pix into iPhoto. Did take a few at the Williams Lk spin in last Saturday, so for now will try and get them into the blog. Spoke to soon, doesn't seem to like to want to work. Went into town last Friday for spin in on Saturday, had lots of running around to do Friday, then up to Denise's for the night. Spin in was great. Lots of ladies from Desert Mesa came, must have had a good time cause they wanted to know if they could come back next year. I had a lg bag of what I call little bits to spin, none longer than 6 or so inches. Did this once before a long time aga and made what I called butt ugly socks, hope this also turns out to be ugly yarn. Stayed over till Monday morning had DR appointment 8:50 am, then got a few groceries and left town just after ...

Socks and Weather

All last week Puntzi and Tatlako were the coldest spots in BC between 6-8 am, 3 for Puntzi and 3 for Tatlako. dubious honor. Yesterday we had snow squalls most all day with temp high of +3. So far today its +5 but the sky to the north is getting darker by the minute, hopefully its rain. Finished the wool-cotton blend by Opal, they had been on and off the needles since mid January. Finally getting ready to start socks for V decided to finish them so I could use the needles elsewhere. Bottom pair are finished Monstersocks, white Opal and lots of odds and sods. Thinking right now both will go into my sock box. And the biggest surprise is that I've been plying, while at Desert Mesa Ryan made me a new belt for my homemade electric plying wheel. Have had problems with joins on all the belts for the last couple of years. This new one is heavier material and a bigger od, and works slick as dog sh** on wet grass. All things considered I'm feeling good, doesn't seem li...

Desert Mesa spring 2019 April 4th thru 7th was an outstanding success but missed my spinning buddy Gail, she was home after having surgery on her broken arm the Friday of DM . I sat next to Dottie with her 1880 spinning wheel, sure made mine look small in comparison. Had a reddish pink merino nylon mix from Mary-Anne Smith to spin, very nearly filled one of my Woolee winder bobbins. Had a piece about 14 inches left to do once I got home. Approximately 4 oz on bobbin. The only yarn I bought was one skein variegated oranges, golds and yellows, will have loads of use for this colorway. Set my spinning wheel up today to finish the stuff I'd been spinning at DM, busted two fingernails, so bad I had to stop and try and repair, one on my left hand so jagged that eventually all the top part of the nail will need to be removed. The pink-y socks I mailed to Fernie arrived and fit, had started to be worried when I hadn't heard in over 2 weeks, but notice from Gayle that she had be...

Monday 1st April

White with lots of odds balls of blue and greens. Second sock into 3rd colour after 18 rows ribbing. Later this morning will put into my knitting bag all the colours that I will likely be using next, this will be my traveling sock. Desert Mesa this weekend in Cache Creek, BC will mostly be spinning but like to have a project while I am having my first cup of coffee  to knit on. Then will be able to leave knitting bag downstairs and not having to carry up the steps. Just a few small patches of snow left in my yard, will likely be gone in the next day or so. After the so cold winter will be looking for green anything, hopefully dandelions in CC. Then if all goes according to plans will go down to the coast and take all necessary stuff directly to passport office, hopefully it will work better than the last application. And I will remember to take my purse with drivers license with me for this trip..
