This and That

Typical lunch   this  time  of  year,  tomatoes  from Desert  Hills in Ashcroft  (banana belt of  BC).  Went down and picked  up a  25 pound  box  of ripe  field tomatoes,  have had one with every meal since  getting  home. Ashcroft is a good  5  hour drive, so it  has to be  a planned trip,  expensive to  drive that  far  but so  worth  it for  me.

Finished another  pair  of scrapper socks, used  as many  of the brighter colours  as I could  find in the stash.  Ended up quite liking them.  They will go into a  basket for  Christmas  giving.

And   have two  more pair on the  needles.  The darker pair look like black is the main  colour but its actually  a really dark blue. The  blue - greens  is from last blog, all  leftover  small  balls.

I  haven't  seen  a  bear in my yard this  year,  last year by  mid August score was  10  blacks and 12 grizzles.  I  know that  they are  around  because  I've  seen  the   deposits  left  behind. I  just haven't seen the critters.

Please leave a comment so I will  know people  are reading the  blog

  1. Thanks for posting. Your lunch looks good., and socks gorgeous as expected. Maybe bears are feeling the heat too. I read your blog religiously but am not a commenter much. Glad to do so if it helps. I’m currently knitting a hat to use up remains from many blankets. Can’t do socks any more…yarn too small and eyesight even smaller.

  5. Sox are great looking as usual. Those not-black ones are really spectacular.
Nice to hear from you. I don't even want to think what the temperature is where you are Here in central Texas it's 104 today. We are promised a bit of relief by Friday: 95 for high and a low of 74. I haven't been doing much knittng...

  6. Lunch or dinner looks delicious, hate that you have to go so far for tomatoes though. Sorry I don’t comment more often, having a quiet spell in life.

  7. Your lunch looks delicious and well deserved after a 5 hour trip ( or is that 5 hr. one-way) to get the produce. I'm sure it makes you appreciate it that much more. Luckily we have tomatoes in our garden and if we can keep the deer out we get to eat most of them, or share with neighbors.
Love the bright colors in the scrappy socks. I keep thinking that I will try a pair with all the leftover sock yarn that I have, but haven't yet. Still knitting socks though. Nice to have a small project when it is hot and humid. Getting ready to start a sweater now that it should be cooling down. Always enjoy your blog, and love to hear about your knitting and what is going on with the weather and critters up there in B.C.

  9. I read every post also! Love the socks - what size needle do you use? I know that your ribbing is a 2x2 because I asked in a previous post.

  10. I have been eating tomatoes too, from my neighbor's garden! Lucky me that she shares.
We had a black bear stroll through the yard here in Vermont (happens a few times a year) and look longingly at our chickens. Caught on a trail cam. Fortunately all the food goes inside at night so it just took a good look and kept on rambling.

  20. Seems to me I've been reading your blog for a long time. I also knit a lot of socks but nothing to compare to yours. The leftovers get used in scrappy blocks, with some ugly socks resulting. But I have family who don't care about color/looks; they just want wool socks. So it works out OK.
