Thesockladyspins

My first handspun socks in a really long time. The light gray is a BFL-Silk mix and the next skein is slightly darker in color, guess whoever has them on their feet will never notice, but I do and can't do anything about it. Will be starting on the heel later today, looking forward to using more of my handspun in the future. Produce it way faster than I can knit with it. Very dark clouds over the valley just now, prediction is for thunderman and lightfoot to visit then hopefully rain, so very glad to see that now, just hope we get enuff to make a difference. 19°C (67°F) is perfect temp for me, glad to see the end of the extreme heat earlier this month. Still spinning the super wash from Crown Mtn Farms, from the looks of whats left and how full bobbin is getting am thinking it won't all fit, have several empty bobbins waiting. Not much else new and exciting in my wild mountain valley, a peaceful easy feeling every time I look out the windows.

Started my spinning late this morning, usually by 8:30 its started to get hot but this morning was blessedly cool, turned on Celtic music (Phil Coulter) and got in my 45 minutes. Spinning some Crown Mtn Farms from the never ending stash. Had 8 oz and will ply it with plain ole white. Planning on socks for me, and also need to replace my fingerless gloves (mine are at least 8 years old) and getting thin. The superwash merino should be way warmer than the worn out Opal. And if Miss Lucy should need socks for winter. Tonight's predicted low is supposed to be +1 (33° F), very nearly frost, and since I am far enuff away from Tatlako weather station will likely happen. But after the July & August temps I am delighted to see it. Won't start complaining until -20°C temps. Gonna stuff my duvet into its flannel sack yet this morning, getting ready for cooler temps.

+5°C this morning and did it ever feel good to be cool again, one of the warmest July & August (so far) EVER, even once Tatlako was the warmest spot in BC at 34.6°C. And now so far its raining and that is even more welcome than the cooler weather, this part of BC is so very dry that it had got to the scary stage, fires all around, the rain should help the situation. Finished the green Monstersocks last night, seems as tho they took longer than normal and with good reason, once second sock was finished held them together and bingo first sock only had 63 rows instead of the 73 that the second sock had, so ripped toe out of first sock and added 10 more rows and redid the toe. Sorta identical and sorta fraternal at same time, when I could match patterns pretty close I did so but some of the colors for first sock were all used up so came close when I could. Will be great sock knitting today with at least two games on NFL and the BC Lions. Just got started on the heel last night before hanging it up on second green Monstersock, hope today to get half way down the foot. Used up several small bits of color on first sock so second will be fraternal, one of the yarns I used the most are the Kaffe Fassett colors of Regia, several of the most popular for my sock knitting are just about gone. Blessedly cool this morning +5°C at just before 7 am, left wool room window open all night and it really make wool room feel great, sun is now over east mountain before 8 so will soon start to warm up. Will be a long cold day in hell before I complain about being to cool, with temps of 34°C several days, was way to hot for this ole lady. Just posted pix of above on Facebook asking peeps if I should do fraternal or almost identical, will go with what majority decides. Forest fire just west of Alexis Creek, main access to Williams Lake and beyond, road right now is closed, may open in spurts during the day. Detour around by Chilko and other roads adding 12.8 kms (rough road in places). Glad I went in when I did. Well remember in 2010 when road was closed at both ends of hiway 20 (Bella Coola and big fire from Chilko) , literally no way in or out then the scary evacuation notice came down, just a possible and as it turned out wasn't needed but nevertheless scary as all get out.

For the first time since I've lived in Tatlako (39 + years) I made a trip to town just to buy a few groceries, mostly tomatoes. Went in Thursday and stayed overnight with friends then the Williams Lk farmers market was on Friday morning, I was there just a bit before it officially opened so had first choice, the only thing I bought was tomatoes, 20+ lbs, a very happy camper. Then a quick trip thru grocery store, didn't need much, got another rotisserie chicken so supper last night was chicken, tomatoes and beet greens. Brought a few things out for Selma she gave me beet greens, basil, swiss chard. Tonight will be more of the same but will add an ear of corn to mix. Made for very expensive tomatoes but at this stage of my life I don't care, would have been worth the trip at twice the price. Only way to get tomatoes out here is in a green house and just not the same as the real thing grown outside in the dirt, besides I don't have one and if I did would have to heat it ...

Finished another pair of Monstersocks, used white Cascade Heritage for the main color then lots of odds & sods, quite sure that my bag of odds is breeding at night. No matter how much I use from the bag it never seems to grow smaller. And made a rookie mistake on sock #2, I always use a different color of yarn as a row counter, somehow (after 10 pm) counted wrong by 10 rows so of course sock was way smaller, nothing to do but frog back and re knit with proper number of rows. Had quite a Thunderman and Lightfoot show late yesterday afternoon, lots of both until skies opened and we got some rain, heavy for maybe 30 minutes and temp cooled from +33 to +17 in just over an hour. Everything felt so much better after the rain, now after less than 24 hours can hardly see any wet spots in the yard. Finished the second bobbin of the merino-nylon mix that I call Sand, once plied (maybe this time next year) will be fingering weight. Had hoped it would be a good color for the flesh area o...
