Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Did bring a nasty bout of the local crud home with me, first time in several years that a cold hit me so hard.

One of the first pair of Koigu gloves I did were for me, but last winter I snagged middle finger on a nail on my handrail, brought them up front, cut off damaged part and knit a new finger. Another bunch of years left in them. Top glove has new red middle finger.

All socks are finished so dug out my bag of Koigu yarn and found I had one glove pretty far along, finished it straight away and had enuff of all the colours to knit #2.

Then gathered up all small balls of Koigu (valuable stuff), took a pix and had a friend dare me to make another pr of gloves out of the bits and pieces. So far so good. Thought about doing current pair identical but while still on ribbing (before coffee) I didn't count ribbing right so ended up with to many rows of first colour, not wanting to rip back just carried on. Will likely be fraternal since I'm out of more than 2 otheer colours needed.

Got a skiff of snow, barely enuff to cover the dead grass. May end up not having a white Christmas, if that happens will be only 2 or 3 since I've lived here (47 years).

A neighbour going to town yesterday asked if there was anything I wanted, milk, bread, eggs, spinach and butter will do nicely. Can go back to my favourite breakfast scrambled eggs with spinach on toast. And of course spinach goes nicely in almost all the soups I make.

Weather continues unseasonably warm, way milder than usual. Often December is close to being the coldest month. Not complaining, easier on propane.

The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7531794809906460381.post-70615801301262849602023-12-01T12:02:00.000-08:002023-12-01T12:02:49.858-08:00Soup weatherJust started a pot of burger vegetable soup, ex ex lean grass fed ground beef,
homecanned stewed tomatoes, local carrots, potatoes, garlic and store bought
celery, and wishing I had a couple handfulls of fresh baby spinach to throw in.
When all is cooked etc. will add a cup or so of macaroni. Enuff soup to last me
thru the weekend.
Neighbour just picked up two bags of trash to go to the dump
on her way to Tatla, pretty much on her way. She also took a parcel to go to
Quesnel with socks for Lyn I. saves me a trip out to mail them. Hoping they
don't go down to Vancouver before coming back up here for Q delivery, prolly
close o 1000km out of the way to do it that way. But Canada Post works in
strange ways.
Second pair going to Q well underway, 22 rows ribbing and about 20
rows of patterns, using bright colours for the patterns as per request. Trying
to limit knitting time to about 30-45 minutes then with long breaks in between,
certainly seems to help arthritic hands.
Weather continues to be dry, hardly any
snow on the ground, usually have several big dumps by this time. If it stays
this way all winter might be another active fire season.

I did get to the October Nicola Valley Spin In, held in Merritt, BC. Was a very good time especially getting to see my BC family. Roomed with Gail and Vicki, in a way to small room at the Comfort Inn in Merritt. When we do it again in May will make sure I get a bigger room with more than two double beds. Didn't know my pix was underway.

A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting.
Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting.
Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1). Made 3 trips to town from middle of April to middle of May, first was for dentist (expensive), optometrist needed new glasses, a really big grocery order (first one in 6 months), and to drop off inc tax stuff to the accountant. Next was for follow up at dentist and to sign inc tax papers. Third was for fun the Williams Lake Spin In, got to see lots of old friends. One more to go glasses are ready for pickup.

March was not a particularily good month for me. Had a big birthday that I'd just as soon forget, weather was lousy, 6 months now without a trip to town and car problems. Finally had to have vehicle towed to town, turns out it was major battery issues. Car was in town over a weekend and when notified that it was ready I was lucky to catch a ride in with a neighbour going in the next morning. When we got to town Linda Lou dropped me off at Downtown Service, got car and first thing went and got a haircut (first in almost 7 months, 4 inches curly stuff removed). Then briefly into SaveOn for produce and left after that for home. Even without driving in knew that I was going to be tired, sure enuff a quick nap in Alexis Creek helped.

Now knitting shortie socks for the grands of neighbours that haul trash to the dump for me. Will do 4 pair in next fall sizes.

First butt ugly Monstersock finished except for dealing with the ends. Each end is either knit in or out so all I have to do is trim (shag) each end so hopefully nothing will show up on the right side. Second sock started while watching the football game yesterday.
Several daytime highs now above freezing means my driveway in places is solid ice, ever so glad I'm not planning on going anywhere. The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7531794809906460381.post-61961947049227035982023-01-31T13:11:00.000-08:002023-01-31T13:11:00.723-08:00The ugliest Monstersocks everFirst off I want to thank everyone that left a comment after the last post.
Gathered up a bunch of odds and sods, enuff I hope for another pair of Monstersocks, this time not much advance sorting. Kept the mostly light shades in one bag and the much darker colours in another.

Started with a light colour then two of the darker. Aiming for the ugliest Monstersocks ever. The two bags on the floor beside my chair, reaching in and knitting with whatever I've grabbed. Then keeping the just finished ball out of the bag so I don't end up using the same until time to start over with the colours. So far the sock is suitable ugly.

Its now been a bit over three months since I went into town, middle of October started with a bad cold then the weather turned crappy, kept putting it off. Even walking with a cane my balance isn't the greatest and am terrified of falling so just stayed home. Audra and another neighbour have brought me milk, eggs and bread from Tatla, that plus canned goods have kept me from hunger. Altho about now I'd seriously consider trading some of my stash for a big salad. Soon I'll have to go in, dentist is calling.

But just to be safe and sure I added the ball of the purple. Second sock of the new blues, greens and purple almost down to the heel.

And I finally finished the red socks for Lynne A. I have another pair of socks with patterned foot on the go but I think it will be the last pair I make like that, arthritis in my left hand makes it hard to hold the second colour while doing patterns.

The weather has finally got itself back to normal January temps, still in the low 20's° F but so much easier to take than the -37° below zero F.

For now temps are back to what is normal for December. I'd bet my yarn stash that there will be another bout of extreme weather before winter is over. I am very grateful that the propane truck came down and filled my tank on the 15th just ahead of of the arctic air.
Redish socks for LA are now well down the foot, can only work on them in the morning when my left hand isn't to sore, arthritis is a PIA. Just plain solid colours (no patterns) are OK in small increments. Did finish the blue - green Monstersocks and have enuff of the odds to easily make another pair.

The socks for neighbours grands arrived and they fit. Over the years I have made 30 pair for these two kids. Think the Mom is keeping them for memories and if and when these kids have kids of their own.

I've been keeping track of patterns for a sleeve to sleeve sweaters and maybe when socks are all finished I will give it a go, using my handspun yarn. Layers kept me warm enuff. Not looking forward to another but Environment Canada says another is on the way.

Finished two pair socks for neighbours grands, kids get socks and neghbours haul my garbage to the dump. Good deal all around.
Next back to work on the red socks for LA, nearly to the heel on second sock.
Nothing much exciting going on around here, traffic on road is quiet and I think hunters are gone now for the season. Very little snow on the ground, thats OK with me as I soon need to make a trip to town, dentist, haircut and a big load of groceries.
Looking forward to the World Junior hockey games starting on Boxing day, IMHO the best part of boxing day crap. If stores didn't sell it on black friday they just move it forward to boxing day and try again. And 99% of the time prices are the same as before the BIG sales. The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7531794809906460381.post-48751456370641928482022-11-11T14:39:00.000-08:002022-11-11T14:39:23.665-08:00Grey Mornings and Blue DaysThis morning started out with mountains all socked it with grey down about half way, then close to noon crud burned off and sky was as blue as it could be. The arctic air that was around the valley has finally moved east, got down to -22° here several mornings, I even shut the bedroom window.
Back working the second wild and crazy red sock, ribbing all done and first pattern well underway. It will be a fraternal twin to the first, same colours but in different places. Even the patterns will be in diff. places. Red will stay the same in ribbing, and heel, with different coloured toes.
First thing this morning put a frozen chicken carcass in soup pot, its now been deboned and goodies (bones etc.) will go to the dump by and by. Celery, carrots and chicken pieces now back in pot, will soon add about 3/4 cup rice, will be enuff to last the weekend. Lots of football on the tube and nice to know I won't have to miss any action while I cook something for supper.

It progressed faster than first eye, can now see well enuff to do without my glasses.
With lots of days with funny vision I am behind on my sock knitting, but finally finished the first red sock.

Well into the ribbing on sock number 2, since they are going to be fraternal I don't have to keep track of the patterns I used on #1. I did keep the colours I used in a seperate bag.
New snow the last little while on all the south west mountains, with temps well down into minus temps likely to stay. Yesterdays low was -9.6°. I've got snow tires on the car, ice spike on my cane, cleats on my boots, and snow shovel at the ready by back door. About as ready as I can do. And a pretty well stocked pantry.

Sure enuff a no show just before 9am, very haapy to see my car going in. Done and out of there just aafter 10 am. So now car ready for winter with snow tires installed. Then a run thru of SaveOn and headed west after 11:30. Stopped at the clinic in Tatla on the way home and got annual flu shot, another winter coming chore done.
While waiting got about 30 + rows done on current sock another few rows and I'll be at toe decrease. Lots of football on the telly over the weekend so should finish first sock and get started on second.
Weather has been unusually mild for this time of year, low 20's daytime highs and 0° or lower overnight. But awfully dry could use several days of rain. The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7531794809906460381.post-14179621185652169462022-09-29T13:44:00.000-07:002022-09-29T13:44:13.555-07:00StuffFirst eye done, cataract surgery 23rd in Williams Lake.had a friend in town that day and was able to second for me (driver). Still a bit blurry so can't tell if it was the sucess I was hoping for. Second eye the 18th Ocober.
Knitting on a time out until vision clears, working down the foot of the first red sock from the 4 way bundle. Probably half way down the patterned foot.. Once this pair is finished will move onto the dark gray pr using only variegated colours.

One of the hardest things I do is change my queen sized bed. Usualy do so every Sunday but with eyes funny did it Tuesday instead. Use flannel sheets the year round, when temp can slip below freezing any time in summer always feels good for flannel.
Have had temps in the mid 20's F already and poplar leaves are turning fast, won't be long before they start to come down.
Hopefully with several college football games that I want to watch on Saturday I'll be able to do a little knitting. Glad that nothing ordered is paid in advance so can take my time getting socks done.
I hope to be able to drive myself (soon) into Williams Lk time for tire change over, snow tire mandatory October 1st, I'll not meet that deadline but will I hope be close. The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7531794809906460381.post-35281581815486898532022-08-18T11:25:00.001-07:002022-08-18T11:25:57.915-07:00Travels & SuchLeft home Thursday 4th for town, ultrasound up at hospital (all clear), prescription at SaveOn. Motel 4th. Friday the 5th drove to Merritt in a round about way, down to hiway #8, finding it closed so back up to Ashcroft and across to Merritt. Saturday the 6th was the Merritt's Mesa spin in, a perfect venue and one of the best spin ins I've been to. Hope we all meet there again.
Then Sunday 7th headed south visiting in Langley with old friend Sally. The 8th down to states, first time in 3 years, hasn't changed a bit. Had lunch with Val S. at Stanwoods in Northgate area, passed Sue Wilsons spinning wheel back to Val, I just never got on with it. Had a pair of socks with that just happened to fit Val, waiting on pix from her.. 10th saw me heading north, crossing the border, piece of cake, hadn't bought anything but 2 skeins yarn and 2 16 " circular needles, a few groceries from Fred Meyers.

Home Friday after a stop in Ashcroft to pick up 75 pounds tomatoes, for me, Audra and Selma. Real tomatoes the kind grown outside in dirt. Have had one every meal since getting home.

Socks that went to Vicki, she wasn't able to come to spin in due to Covid coming to visit, so Gail delivered socks on her way home, perfect timing for sick patient.
Made a pair of socks for Chris A when he had heart surgery, just was a bit late getting them to him. Sent home with Lynne A from Merritt's Mesa.

And decided to send it to the lab in Wms Lk to be looked over, so incision prolly a bit over and inch 1/4 long, took 5 stitches to close. Tad bit sore for any knitting. Using the cane in my right hand doesn't work well at all.
Seems as tho bear activity has slowed way down. haven't seen one in my yard since the 9th. Pretty sure from their leavings that they are still around I just haven't seen them. And only keep track of the ones I can see right in my house yard.
Dalmation toad flax (noxious weed) took off this year like I've never seen, seems like half my yard is yellow. Local weed knocker downer was here yesterday and said he woud try and come as soon as he could and using his quad to hook up to brush hog will get whole yard done in about an hour. Much safer when things start to dry up, less of a fire hazard. The sockladyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03791142307101200292noreply@blogger.com3
