This and That

Out last Sunday to our small farmers market in Tatla Lake, was hoping for eggs and bread, no eggs but instead scored real tomatoes from the Okanagan, bought 8 sorta large and have had one a day since I came home. 2 left, bummer had just got used to having them again. I do have to make a trip into town for prescription refills in the next few days might luck out and find more at Beaver Valley Feeds.

The socks for Miss E are on the way, Jo forgot to pick them up when she left but via the who is going to town to make connections they made it. Looking forward to pix on the kids. As soon as I was done with this batch started a pair for Maela, Opal variegated green for main colour then lots of odds and sods for the patterns. Pix after a bit more progress.
Have a #monstersockkal starting Sept. 1st so that will be next project, lots of blues, and greens all odds and sods.

Haven't neglected (to much) my spinning, finished the second bobbin of the little bits, used red about every 4th or so rows, so hopefully once I start plying the reds will come over each other occasionally. Have enuff of the leftover bits to do one more bobbin full, haven't decided yet what I will ply it with. Have lots of choices so will be another batch of wild and crazy sock yarn.


First Knitting Bee yesterday since July 3rd, everyone is busy in summer with gardens, yard chores, company and travels. Andrea our visiting nurse from VGH is up visiting the husband so we all (3 of us) try to meet when she shows up. Saw a large black bear walking right on the road on the way home, didn't have time to get camera before it headed into the trees. Noticed that the dog bane has all turned yellow along the road a sure sign of frost and fall on the way. Temp this morning was 3.4° C and forecast from Environment Canada's weather page is predicting lows pretty close to freezing,

    The little ones socks came out nice . Hopefully There will be tomatoes when you can get into town again. Your spinning is nice and even. Can't wait too see it plied together and in a skein of yarn. You can keep the black bear in your area. WE had a black bear come over the canal a couple of years ago. Didn't seem to bother any one. That' s the first bear we have on Cape Cod. You take care!!

    I, too, celebrate tomatoes that actually TASTE like tomato/not cardboard! I can picture you enjoying them each day.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Did bring a nasty bout of the local crud home with me, first time in several years that a cold hit me so hard.  One of the first pair of Koigu gloves I did were for me, but last winter I snagged middle finger on a nail on my handrail, brought them up front, cut off da

Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
