This and That

Home from 2018 conference of NwRSA held this year in Olympia, WA. Facilities this year were great, Red Lyon hotel, with everything under one roof, no long walks to meals, classes or spinning room.  General consensus of everyone there thought it was outstanding so much so that it will be held there again in 2019.

I only bought one bit of a BFL mix roving. Got 12 oz and once spun (and sufficiently aged) will ply with another BFL-Silk mix that I already have spun, also have a BFL-mohair mix so will likely do a 3 ply for super strong sock yarn.

Return home was a bit tricky as I-5 was completely closed so taking directions from Sharon (she lives in Bellevue so knows the area) I drove around the traffic mess. Then stopped in Bellingham and bought lunch to take with me to Carol and Toms place, deli meats, swiss cheese, 2 deli salads and big sandwich buns, then ended up with a motel in B-Ham for the night. Got passport pix in the morning (for renewal) and did a run thru of Fred Myers for grocery stuff I can't get in BC. Then north to Sally's for another overnight, left Tuesday morning for Williams Lake, starting to feel all the travel and strange beds. Picked up produce, fruit etc. in WL first thing then headed west. Dorian (super car unloader) had everything out of the car and in the house in about 5 minutes.

Had rain overnight last night and new snow on west mountains this morning. Juneuary with frost several mornings while I was gone. And tonight's forecast is again below freezing.

    How great that the NWRSA location was such a good choice this year. I was sorry to miss but with packing a house to move I couldn't even consider leaving. If it's going to be there again next year rather than Eastern WA or even Idaho I'll definitely put it on my calendar.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Did bring a nasty bout of the local crud home with me, first time in several years that a cold hit me so hard.  One of the first pair of Koigu gloves I did were for me, but last winter I snagged middle finger on a nail on my handrail, brought them up front, cut off da

Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
