Handspun socks

Finished the first pair of handspun socks last night, washed them (along with 15 pair of other socks), not as happy as I thought I would be with this pair, none of my boots are big enuff that I can wear them in. So will relegate them to wearing in the house when its really cold (below zero F), and that is supposed to happen starting tonight. 11° below tonight and a good bit colder tomorrow night 24° below zero is whats forecast. Second pair of handspun socks down to toe decreases on first sock, much brighter with lots of odds & sods.


Had a pair of handspun socks hanging around for a long time, much to small for my fat legs. So while Liz was here I sent them up the hill for her grandmother, Swede is in mid 80's and has a much smaller leg. Will be great for her to use as bed socks. Maela photo bombing pix.

My soup turned out great, have had it two nights for supper and will again tonight. Turned out tho that I was SOL finding any noodles, but a bag of Spaetzel worked just fine.

Wasn't able to stay up long enuff last night to see the New Year in, was pounding my pillow just before 11.

    Hello, what beautiful spools of yarn and great looking socks in pix of previous posts! And what incredible weather to rip off that heavy screen door...must have made a heck of a noisIe. like the handspun socks - they seem terrifically hardy. How good it must feel to know people have warm feet, because of your beautiful work.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
