Town

Bit the bullet and went into town last Thursday, watched weather on Environment Canada's site and tried to pick a day with not much chance of snow. Got lucky and 90% of the road in was bare and dry, the little bit out this way had icy spots and a little bit of compact snow. If highways used a sweeper brush on it when it first started sticking it would have got rid of the snow. Did lots once in town, oil change and car wash, banking, haircut, Wally World, and wholesale club. Stayed in all night up at Denise & Lens place. Then Friday did my grocery shopping, every kind of lettuce that SaveOn sells, plus a large box of mixed organic greens, cucumbers, 3 kinds of squash, celery, peppers, onions, cilantro and more. And the real bonus was a rotisserie chicken, so had a large chicken salad once home for supper. Lorelee came and helped unload stuff (including 4 flats of water), had cucumbers for her and sent a leg & thigh from chicken for her supper (she is babysitting the younger Harris' place). And the main reason for going in was to refill all my prescriptions, good now for a bit over 3 months meds wise. Yesterday was pretty much a write off, still tired from the trip to town, so finished a pair of socks, and started another pair of Monstersocks (left from a rip out a week or so ago).




Still spinning on what I'm calling mint chocolate chip. Pix doesn't show the color very well.


Got dishes all caught up and now will gather up more of the leftovers and watch football. Glad to be home, safe and warm, right now its sorta trying to snow.

    So great you could get into town and get stocked up before there is a lot of snow on the roads. We had just a skiff of snow and now today sun is out and snow is all melted. Love the socks! Love the choc chip yarn you are spinning, great colors. Take care.....

    Yes, all that running around & the long drive too. Whew. A couple of days of knitting socks & enjoying the TV are called for. Great socks. Hope you're checking in at WNN - Dotty has some new cat photos & one of a rather delicious looking Santa.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
