Heat

Sam local electrician in yesterday to look house furnace over, turns out to just have been the pilot light blew out during the high winds of the 9th. Except for 2 old baseboard heaters I didn't have any heat in main part of the house from the 9th until the 23rd. First time in 2 weeks that I don't have on several long sleeved shirts and a wool sweater.

Several people are more concerned about me being here on Christmas day without any company, but really its just what I want. Will be cooking a small ham and maybe scalloped potatoes, carrot salad and a small yam. Lots of leftovers then to be followed by either bean or pea soup.

Today its relatively warm -6°C with lots of sunshine and blue sky, if the sun would have made an appearance while furnace was out sure would have been a lot better.

Not much of a fan of country or rock n roll Christmas music and right now that is about all the radio I can get is playing, so will put on some old stuff on the CD changer, Phil Coulter, Gordon Lightfoot, Jennifer Warnes, Kenny G and knit on current monster socks.

    So glad you have heat again. Did he show you how to light the pilot light if it happens again? Or is that not something the average person can do?

    My mom had these foot long matches to light the furnace if it went out. I'll see if I can find some for you.
    I intend to spend Christmas by myself as well. Then I can eat what I want - looks like chicken, yam & sprouts!!! - and watch black & white movies or maybe a HGTV marathon. Who says you have to party with people you don't really like even if they share the same genes???? BAH Do what you wana wana do, say what you wana wana say, go where you want to gooooooo!     Merry Christmas, Lynne! Hope the heat keeps on heating! I can't take any more Christmas movies, or music either. Been watching since it started early November, and I'm done for this year.
    I wish we had a bit colder weather. The ground is not even frozen. A real mess in the backyard, and the dogs are not happy. No more snow either.

    Enjoy your Christmas ham etc. Sounds good, especially the soups, great for cold weather.

4 more pair on needles, work on each for at least 10 rows every other day before putting it down. Blue pair is farest along and have everything ready for sock #2. Blue pair will be identical all the others fraternal. A couple of nights ago bout 9pm saw a blue heron land in tree just south of the house, watched it preen for some time and when it was to dark for a pix 2 more landed in tree beside the first. Same day saw a kingfisher dive towards the river. Bear activity has cooled down, assume they are over at the Chilko River system fishing for salmon. Last black I saw was just its backside as it headed for the west fence got a quick pix but not worth posting. Nothing much happening in my wild mountain valley these days, some ranchers have finally been able to start cutting hay, and everyone else is hoping for rain. So many bad fires in BC again this season.

Finally got myself to town Dec. 27-28. Prescriptions, haircut, groceries, and most important getting bank Visa problems straightened out. Tried dealing with bank via telephone and both times I connected got someone that wouldn't acknowledge that I was hard of hearing, heavy accents didn't help. Had 7 charges for Play Station almost $1000, since I've never even seen one, wasn't me . Because of all the weird charges they wouldn't activate the new Visa card. A good weather window opened so in I went, took almost an hour getting everything straightened out. Meanwhile when I did get to the grocery store almost filled my buggy with produce and fruit. Had help unloading the car when I got home Thursday 3 ish. Grizzlies

May 30th had a visiting grizzly complete with two yearling cubs, camera at hand got 3 pix before she and cubs wandered off. 2023 season off to a good start, 2 blacks and 3 griz in my yard. Sock knitting continues as always, pix of latest finished pair of Monstersocks. As soon aas they were finished started another pair using a midnight blue Hawthorne from Knit Picks, but instead of Monstersocks am going back to old standby fair-nordic patterns, dk blue will be main colour then orange, med gray, red and white for the patterns. Fairly conservative for my knitting. Went into town on Monday, oil change, checked in at Speedy Glass about a new windshield (come back in a week), picked up my new glasses, then a motel for the night. Tuesday had dentist appointment at 9 am, think its the last for a while, then renewed ICBC (license plate and insurance for another year), picked up some groceries and lastly Kal Tire where I finally got winter tires off my Subie (they go back on October 1).
